Matt Sullivan (Josh Hartnett), his last relationship ended in disaster and he has been suffering ever since. Then comes Lent: a period of time when everyone gives up something. And on that day, Matt, a man who has never been able to finish anything in his life, decides to do something no man has ever tried before. He will give up sex. And anything similar to it. No touching, kissing, flirting, etc. For a full 40 days, Matt will abstain from all of it. At first, everything seems under control, but everything changes when Erica (Shannyn Sossamon) enters his life. Now, as everyone bets that Matt won't be able to finish what he started, he tries to resist and hopes that Erica will wait for him.
